Surviving typhoon ketsana!

posting mei mei's report from manila:

Mathew flew off to Papua b4 typhoon. I was alone with kids.

"My condo was flooded below ground level. Cars from basement have to relocate to ground. I was not aware n told driver to drop us at basem't coz lobby's too windy n wet. At basement u can see waterfall everywhere. Rain water rushed in from any openings. Elevator masuk air n not operating .

Condo's residents r either stuck at lobby or in own units. So I walked up with 2 boys carrying my big laptop from basement 3 to penthouse!! Boys were having fun. I saw stars dancing when arriving at penthouse. More than 30 floors. Marcus said his feet were numbed. Luckily I've done some cardio in gym this month. Exciting? Mathew said he missed all the fun! I said he 'good dog life'.

The typhoon supposed to sweep across northern area but I think diverted. I didn't expect flash flood at my area coz this is a new developm't with better drainage system. The national weather forecast failed to warn us on the intensity of the rain. I only found out many died at other areas. Count my blessings."

(And then, if you're wondering about Mabel)
"I sent Mabel to school for Model United Nation (high schooler pretend to be rep from all countries for speech n debate) early morning that day. It was only drizzling. So she was safe in school nearby. The route between school n home r safe to drive with ankle height water.

This is not a super typhoon like the one in 2006 but the amt of rainfall was highest record in 42yrs."

Christmas 08/New Year 09

A belated Christmas to everybody! This being my first Christmas in my apartment..the theme is a "deconstructed Christmas" and I'm quite proud of my "almost a wreath" wreath on my front door, and my table arrangement with real pine needles

and since I had all this apt space, I also decided to make use of it to make advent wreaths to fundraise for my Habitat build this year! My friends helped out for one of the nights, but in reality, for 3 wks, my place was a wreath-making workshop as I and Jackie (Ah Leng's friend) made about 50 wreaths over 3 wks!

more to come..

Europe Bonanza

This trip to Europe was one to rave about with our string of good food, historic sights and good company. Ian graduated in November which was a much anticipated event and a great relief to Dad and Mum's mind and bank.
We continued this celebration through the whole 3 weeks of the trip. We went up to Poynton to visit the Churchman and enjoyed a home cooked roast and yummy pavlova. Look at those fresh rasberries and cream on that pavlova. It's Aunty Jean's killer dessert. The eating continues around London with an entourage. This is at Gordon Ramsay's pub in Limestreet with good wholesome pub food such as fish and chips, mash and peas.

With all that eating, we had to do some walking through London to prepare us for the next meal.
At Canary wharf checking the stock prices during the credit crunch close to Yushan's workplace

Finally its dinner time.

We could not leave London without meeting the infamous twins, Izzy & Libby. And of course Chris and Karen.

France here we come.....

November1

Hi Everyone - sorry for the long silence..

Dad (Uncle Frankie) as you all know had a stroke in July. He's now somewhat stabilised and at least at home comfortably rather than being at a nursing home.

Praise God for giving us a good maid to help mom out. Otherwise it wasn't possible to have dad at home.

He still has difficulty walking but by God's healing power, prayers and anointing oil, we believe he'll soon be able to walk.

Meanwhile, if anyone is planning to visit Penang, please do so from Nov 1-10, when Christopher and Karen will be out from London with the twins!

Come and play with them! They're adorable!

Izzy and Libby Cheah turn one!

Hi Lynn.. Good to read your blog!! I was busy in London at that time.. attending the twins' birthday party! Which was well-represented by cousins like Ian, and my cousin Michael as well.. very nice. Hey Ian, it was a revelation that you enjoy playing with kids, good for you!

Isabelle and Olivia are super duper cute, with tubby tummies and the cutest smiles! They're just learning their first words. They're much quicker when it comes to actions though.. and their mommy karen is very good at teaching them what actions and sounds to make!

but looking after them double a full-time job - their routine goes something like this;
730am wake up, hv milk, breakfast, change nappy, play in front of TV until 10am; nap time. wake up and hv lunch around 1230pm, after which there's usually another nappy change during which they squirm like little worms and fuss.
then it's nap time at 2, 230pm, wake up at 3.30pm - and that's when they hv to be entertained until dinner time at 530pm-6pm.

Happily, they've been going to bed by 8pm. and sleeping all the way through.

Thought I'd post some pictures of their birthday party held at the church hall..

Izzy's in PINK and Libby's in BLUE

The twins had such fun at the party they were still dreaming of it, I'm sure.
Here's the morning after the party! Libby and Chris
